With assistance from CBRA, other state biomedical research associations, and major pharmaceutical firms, BioRAP will continue to develop new topics. Grant support is being sought to examine such issues as student ethnicity, general science literacy and the usefulness of the teachers guides that accompany each issue. New marketing strategies are also being reviewed.
Topics include Aids, Feline Leukemia, Lyme Disease, Cancer, Product Testing, Sun and Skiing, Genetics and Aging, Research Today for a Healthy Tomorrow, and Risk Assessment.
Developed by Connecticut United for Research Excellence (CURE), BioRAP is an interactive health and science newsletter produced for middle school students on health topics of interest to them. As a sponsor of the pilot evaluation project, CBRA distributed the newsletter to selected California classrooms for use and evaluation by students and teachers. The positive response in California and elsewhere led to a decision by CURE to distribute BioRAP on a national subscription basis. BioRAP is currently available free of charge on the internet at http://www.biorap.org/.
